Kara Salazar, Purdue University
Dr. Kara Salazar is Assistant Program Leader for Community Development with Purdue Extension and Sustainable Communities Extension Specialist, affiliated with Illinois-Indiana Sea Grant and the Purdue University Department of Forestry and Natural Resources. Dr. Salazar has a Ph.D. in natural resources social science from Purdue University, bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Indiana University, and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners. Working with multidisciplinary teams, Dr. Salazar oversees program development, delivery, and evaluation to support environmental planning, community development, and sustainable development strategies in communities across Indiana and Great Lakes states. Program efforts emphasize collaborative planning and facilitated inclusive community forums using data and visualization tools to explore policy and management interventions that address complex natural resource management and land use issues. Areas of focus include community resilience, green infrastructure, hazard mitigation, parks and public spaces, renewable energy, and environmental and social justice issues.

Walt Sell, Purdue University
As the ANR Assistant Program Leader for Soil Health at Purdue University Extension, Walt has a dedicated focus on Extension educational efforts in soil health, water quality and nutrient management. He work closely with County Extension Educators and campus faculty and specialists to transfer results of groundbreaking research to real world applications for farmers and agribusiness personnel.
Walt also work to build on Extension’s participation and representation in the Indiana Conservation Partnership to address issues on soil health, water quality and nutrient management.
