The Current: Inclusion and Green Infrastructure

August 12, 2020 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Free

Building social equity and environmental justice into the conversation around green infrastructure (GI) is an opportunity to transform communities by integrating economic, environmental, and social goals. Green infrastructure – such as parks, green roofs, and rain gardens – has the potential not only to meet community stormwater management needs but to address other inequitable burdens exasperated by climate change, such as pollution and lack of access to green space. Join us for the next edition of The Current, where we’ll dive into a new North Central Region Water Network report, led by the University of Illinois, with insights for communities and extension professionals seeking to implement GI programs that incorporate equity and GI goals.

Featured Speakers:

  • Carla Walker, Founder/CEO, think BIG Strategies, LLC: “An Equity Lens on Green Infrastructure
  • Tony Heath, P.E., Civil and Environmental Engineer, and Urban Planner, Fishbeck, Inc.: “Lessons Learned from Equitable Green infrastructure Listening Sessions
  • Yordanose Solomone, Director of Equitable Engagement, Metro Blooms: “Actualizing Equity in Green Infrastructure
