Summer Institute for Climate Change Education

June 26, 2018 - June 28, 2018

Educators will use Climate Generation’s curriculum, Next Generation Climate, (NGC) as the focus for the Summer Institute. NGC is a 6-lesson, interdisciplinary, middle school curriculum that has students investigate the cause of the global temperature change, research the major repercussions of climate change, and find out how they can monitor and minimize those repercussions. The institute will be featuring experts and scientists from the colleges and surrounding area who are doing research and studying climate change. St. John’s University has a 3,000 acre Arboretum that we will tour and use for outdoor activities, a solar array with educational opportunities, LEED certified buildings, and many more features that will add to the hands-on learning of the Institute.

Participants will have the opportunity to:

  • Hear from experts and scientists on their research on climate science and climate change solutions
  • Dive deep into our Next Generation Climate curriculum that supports Next Generation Science and Minnesota Science Standards
  • Experience Minnesota’s biomes in St. John’s University’s 3,000 acre Arboretum, learn how they use their solar array as a teaching tool, and tour LEED certified buildings
  • Network with other educators who are incorporating climate change into their teaching
