Water is Not for Gambling: Utilizing Science to Reduce Uncertainty
Welcome from UCOWR president, David Kreamer:
I would like to extend a warm welcome (perhaps even hot in Las Vegas in June) to all participants in the 2015 Annual Conference of the Universities Council on Water Resources, the National Institutes for Water Resources, and the Consortium of Universities for the Advancement of Hydrologic Science, Incorporated. It is my hope that you have an excellent, entertaining, and productive experience at this conference, and find some time to enjoy the many varied sights and sounds that Las Vegas has to offer. Thanks for your participation in what is anticipated to be a fine conference. At UCOWR, we begin our second half century of providing an interdisciplinary forum for both national and international water issues through our conferences, our journal, and many other activities and collaborations.
We are grateful to have the participation of many delegates and Board members, and in particular for this conference, the joint sponsorship by NIWR and CUAHSI, the welcome co-sponsorship of many organizations, and support of generous donors. If you have not been involved in UCOWR, NIWR, or CUAHSI in the past, we invite you to participate in our many future activities. Lastly, I hope you have time to visit the many things that makes Las Vegas a special place. Please travel with us to explore Hoover Dam, Lake Mead and the Colorado River. Las Vegas is closer to more major National Parks than any major city, and we have mountains outside of town that rise up to almost 12,000 feet above sea level. The city is home to excellent and nearby outdoor activities such as mountain biking, skiing and snowboarding (but not this time of year!), hiking, boating, water skiing, rock climbing, zip-lining, and fishing. And of course there are the shows and entertainment that make Las Vegas famous.
