High rate renewable energy production with the Static Granular Bed Reactor (SGBR)

April 3, 2014 @ 9:00 am

April 3rd, 2014 · 9 am (CT) / 10 am (ET)

Presenter: Dr. Tim Ellis, Iowa State University

An exciting new anaerobic treatment technology, the static granular bed reactor (SGBR), has been developed and patented at Iowa State University to treat a variety of wastewaters from municipal, industrial, and agricultural sources.  Due to its unique reactor configuration, the SGBR allows for more efficient and cost-effective treatment in a smaller footprint, without the need for expensive membranes, heat exchangers, mixers, etc.  In addition, treatment occurs in an anaerobic environment at ambient temperatures, eliminating the need for energy input in the form of aeration or heat, and in turn, producing methane as a valuable end-product and renewable energy source.  The simplicity of the SGBR is the main advantage over conventional anaerobic treatment technologies.  This webinar will detail the unique aspects of the SGBR and the opportunities that exist for using this technology to not only treat a variety of waste streams, but to generate a continuous source of renewable energy.
