Aaron Field, North Dakota State University

Aaron Field is the new Program Coordinator for the ND State Soil Conservation Committee. He came to ND State in August 2020 from Chadron, Nebraska where he had been a faculty member in agriculture and rangeland management at Chadron State College since 2016.

At Chadron, he taught a variety of courses including ecology, plant science, plant identification, soils, agriculture and natural resource management. He also developed and taught a course in land ethics, which is designed to promote collaborative, interdisciplinary problem solving. He conducted program level assessments, curriculum mapping and course development that utilized a variety of formats, including face-to-face, online and hybrid.

Aaron has his bachelor’s degree in biology from Jamestown College, and his master’s in natural resources management and Ph.D. in range science from NDSU. While at NDSU, Aaron served as a teaching assistant and co-instructor for multiple courses leading him to additional graduate level coursework in education, and a college teaching certificate in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).

Tom Scherer, North Dakota State University

Tom SchererTom Scherer was raised on a dairy farm in central Minnesota. He served six years in the US Navy and obtained bachelor’s, master’s and Ph.D. degrees in Agricultural Engineering from the University of Minnesota.

From 1980 to 1983 he worked for the State of Minnesota as a public health Engineer. From 1987 to 1991 he was an assistant professor and irrigation specialist with the University of Arizona.

In 1991, he began working for the NDSU Extension. He is responsible for leadership and development of statewide educational programs involving irrigation systems and management, onsite wastewater (septic) systems, private water delivery and treatment systems, drainage, and water resource management.
